History.

Over a century and a half ago, Edgar Sergeant founded E.M. Sergeant Pulp & Chemical (EMS) with a mission to import, warehouse, and resell bulk materials and inorganic products to heavy industry. Successful from the very beginning, the company continued to prosper and provide value by contributing to the effort in World War II as a distributor of bulk chlorine to the US government.

Years later, as the old guard made way for new corporate leadership, Albert Reisch, Sr. secured a controlling interest in the company and set it on a path toward increased growth and innovation. Having begun his career at EMS as a clerk, Sr. took what he had learned from his mentor Edgar Sergeant and used it to expand the distribution of domestic manufactured items and increase the importation and resale of not only bulk chemicals but also European oils and food commodities.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Albert Reisch, Jr. assumed leadership of the company in 1976, after Sr.’s sudden and unexpected passing. Having been raised in the family business, Jr. was uniquely qualified to lead EMS and was able to continue the company’s business operations without disruption. In recent years and under his watch, EMS has grown to include Sergeant Adjuvants as well as Sergeant Nutra, divisions that cater to the specialized markets of pharmaceutical adjuvants as well as ingredients for nutritional and food Industries.

Experience.

Today, EMS is led by Albert, Jr.’s son, Scott A. Reisch, who runs day-to-day operations and spearheads future growth while his father retains the position of CEO and oversees operations. Under Scott’s leadership, and with two generations of family experience to support him, the company has continued to thrive, relying on wide-ranging expertise, deep knowledge of requirements and applications, long standing supplier relationships, and a never-ending passion to provide innovative products and raw materials to commercial and industrial clientele.

Recently, Scott partnered with Paul Knox to form Sergeant Dairy & Proteins (SDP), a new venture focused on dairy commodities, ingredients, proteins, and dairy blends.
